Punk begun in the 1970's as an irksome, guerilla uprising against mainstream popular culture music. Bands alike Sex Pistols, the Offspring, and Pere Ubu helped bring punk back in 1990. This time the blend of lively, simple rock music with catchy pop melodies cooled heels on the MTV. Today, soi-disant punk pop is the main part in the sphere of chart music. 1. blink-182 - Enema of the State

After fading from their 90's peak of popularity, Green Day retreated to the studio to put together punk's first rock opera. Despite the fact that the punk band was anxious about their fan's reaction to American Idiot, it turned out to be an American punk rock classic topping the charts and gaining a Grammy award for Best Punk Album of two thousand and four.
